Mental Math Sharing

Hello! Happy Tuesday!

Today in Math we learned two new mental math strategies to add to the previous four we have been exploring. After practicing together as a whole class, we each chose a strategy to try on our own, and then partnered up with a classmate (who chose a different strategy than us) to explain the steps of how we arrived at the answer. Taking time to explain our thinking to someone else allows us to deepen our own understanding.

Please ask me: what strategy did I try today? What strategy did my partner use? Which of the two strategies do I prefer? Why?

AGENDA

SPIRIT WEEK is next week! Check out THIS POST for all the dress-up fun!

1. Netmath - intro lesson and 2 'books' - OVERDUE
See last Tuesday's post for log in information.

2. Spend some time reading this week! ebookids.com is a great site that offers a variety of French stories as well as audio books. Setting aside 10-15 minutes for French reading will have a huge impact on French language development.

3. If you have not already done so, please ensure you have a pair of headphones here at school. We will be using the laptops for different reading and math activities and having headphones will allow students to better focus on their own work and allow for a calmer learning environment as a whole.

4. The Casse-croute is open for business! Every Tuesday and Thursday students will have the opportunity to purchase a snack to enjoy along with their lunch. The casse-croute is cash only. Please see the menu that was sent home in Friday's "News from the office" for more info. Bon appétit!

5. SOCK-TOBER: In partnership with Ogijiita Pimatiswin Kinamatwin, we (along with all schools in the St James Assiniboia School Division) are collecting donations of socks and mittens this October.
Please bring in new, unopened adult or kid-sized scocks, gloves and mittens from now until October 31.
There are collection bins near all three entrances (6,7 and 8).
Please donate as you are able. Thank you!
