Connais-tu Maurice Richard?

Hello! Happy Thursday!

In Français, we have started our "le hockey" unit with a look at hockey legend Maurice Richard. Earlier this week we started our learning by watching a short Vraiment Top video about him (ask me about the Kahoot we played afterwards... So.Much.Yelling. Ha!) and today in class we listened to the story, Connais-tu Maurice Richard? to learn even more about "Le Rocket."

Please ask me about my favourite Maurice Richard facts... he had quite the incredible hockey career!

We will continue our hockey-themed vocabulary and book work over the next few classes in preparation of our first whole-class novel study, which as you may have guessed, also has a bit of a hockey theme.

2. Math - Tomorrow (Friday) we'll be doing a short Math check-in on multiples. Students will be asked to find multiples of a number, find the ppcm (lcm) of a set of numbers and find the answer to a short work problem. We have been working on this concept for the past week in class and are ready to show our learning. No additional preparation is required, but counting aloud by different numbers is always a fun car-ride activity! :)

Get some reading time in this evening!

The Bus Stop

Two friends are waiting at the bus stop.

Matty is waiting for Bus 24 that arrives every 8 minutes.

Teddy is waiting for Bus 11 that arrives every 15 minutes.

Neither of them wants to wait alone, so they've decided they will board their busses when they arrive together.

The two busses just arrived together at 1:00 pm. What time then will the boys board their busses?

Next step:

The following day, Matty needs to take Bus 21 that arrives every 7 minutes and Teddy needs to take Bus 22 that arrives every 12 minutes. Again, they will wait together until they can board their busses at the same time.

The two busses just passed at 12:15. When will both busses next arrive together?

Emoji Store!

Today in Math, we worked in randomized groups of 3 at the white boards to solve this question:

There is an Emoji store opening at Polo Park!

To generate excitement, the first 100 customers have a chance to win a prize with their purchase.

Every 3rd customer will win a key chain.

Every 8th customer will get an emoji pillow.

Every 12th customer will get a $15 gift card.

What place in line should you be if you want to receive all three prizes? How many customers will receive all 3?

Please ask me about my group's strategy. What was our first step in finding the answer?

Il faut nommer...

Hello, friends of learning! Happy snowy Thursday!

Today in Français we played a new game, "Il faut nommer." There are different categories on the game board sheet. If we can succesfully name (IN FRENCH) items in the given category, we can place a jeton to mark the square as ours. The goal is to get four squares in a row.

Now that we've practiced this game as a class, it will be added into our daily Français reading activity rotation so we can further our vocabulary and conversation skills.

The Painted Cube

Today in Math we explored the following question:

Painted Cube

Paint all the sides of a 3 x 3 x 3 cube. Once it is dry take it apart into its 1 x 1 x 1 unit cubes. How many of these unit cubes have paint on three faces? Two faces? One face? No faces? Explore for 4 x 4 x 4, etc.

We all worked well in our groups, approaching the task and explaining our work in so many different ways. Please ask me: What was my group's strategy? How did the answers change as the cube's dimensions increased? What answer won't change, regardless of the size of the cube? Why?

Hello friends of learning! Happy first day back! Happy 2024!

This morning we completed a "Qui a...?" activity to see what our classmates were up to over the break, reviewed our school values ("R.I.R.E") and classroom expectations, refreshed our Math vocabulary brains with an "Esti-mystère" and completed an classmate interview with a partner which turned out to be a silly mad-lib style story about ourselves! Fun!

Please ask me about my story - what colour are my hair and eyes? What food do I eat every day? What do I really want for my birthday this year?

We are all looking forward to a great year ahead!
