The Collatz Conjecture, Strike a Pose, Rhyme Time

Hello! Happy Thursday!

Today in Math, we explored the Collatz Conjecture.
(A conjecture is an inference formed without proof or sufficient evidence.)

The Collatz Conjecture works like this:
- Choose any whole number.
- If it's an even number, divide by 2.
If it's an odd number, multiply by 3 and add 1.
- Continue this process until your sequence ends.
- Choose another number and create the sequence.
- What do you notice? What do you think will happen?
-What conjecture do you have?

(Learn more about the Collatz Conjecture HERE.)

Please ask me about the Collatz Conjecture. What numbers did my group and I choose? What did we notice?

*****
For our next activity, we had a special guest. Mme Champagne!
She introduced us a to new French routine, Recréer la pose. (Strike a pose).

How it works :
- a volunteer comes up to the front and CANNOT look behind them
- a photo of a model pose is then projected on the screen behind them
- students must give verbal directions (no actions) to have the student recreated the pose
- at the end, we compare to see how we did!

Mme Champagne was our first model!

Strike a pose!

How did we do?

We look forward to continuing this fun routine in the spring!

Finally, today's Spirit Day was "Rhyme Time."

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink, and Present at Assemblies!

 Hello! Happy Wednesday!

Today was our class' turn to present at the monthly 'Celebration of Learning' assembly.

As a class, we chose to share our of our favourite Math routines, les esti-mystères.

We each had an important role in the presentation: reading, holding posters, crossing off numbers and making estimations in live-time.

It is not an easy job presenting to a gym full of students and teachers, but we all did an AMAZING job!

Félicitations les élèves! :)

Making our estimations

We presented something from ScHum, too. Please ask me about it!

And, on Wednesdays, we wear pink.

It's Tuesday!

Hello! Happy Tuesday! Happy Nowruz! Happy First day of Spring!

We started our day with a estimation fact activity.

Did you know that Wayne Gretzky had counted 2 857 points in his career?! Wow!

Next up, a 'Spring Personality Test' that allowed us to review some previous Math concepts.

Please ask me about the questions on the test and how colourful my rainbow ended up being!

We also took some time for a final run-through for our assembly presentation tomorrow morning!
We are ready to go and can't wait to share our Esti-mystère with the school!

Have a great afternoon! :)
