It's Friday! (And the sixth day of middle school!)

Hello, friends of learning!

Friday morning has come and gone, and we are ready for the weekend! (A full week of school is no joke! Phew!)

Before signing off, let's take a quick look at what we were up to on this, the sixth day of middle school!

*

We started our day with a new Math starter, "Cible." A target number is posted on the board, and we figure out (using the mental-math part of our brains) what  number pair we need to reach it.

Ex: Today's Cible (target) number was 50.
If I have 40, you need 10. If I have 31, you need 19. If I have 22, you need 28, and so on.

We will continue this routine throughout the year with a variety of numbers, from very small to very large, in order to keep our mental-math strategies strong.

Next up, another story!

And then, another getting-to-know-you activity... but this time with food! Yum! (Please ask me what I shared with my classmates! Did I have anything in common with the other members of my group?)

We ended the morning with our first team challenge of the year!

Working in randomized teams of 3 (and 1 group of 4), we were tasked with building the tallest, free-standing spaghetti structure possible (with a marshmallow on top!), and we only had 30 pieces of dry spaghettini, 1 meter of tape and 16 minutes to do so!

We all had different approaches and varying degrees of success, but in the end, we were still all smiles
as we closed out our first full week together as a team!

And, a big Bravo! to our winners - Team C+R+E - who had the tallest structure with a height of 26 cm!

Thanks for a great week, everyone! :)
