Joyeuses fêtes!

Hello! Happy Friday!

We had a holly jolly time this morning in Room 208!

We had time to finish our Grinch pictures and 3D snowflakes, did a 12-days-of-Christmas themed Math question and finished with a Grinch-themed Math 'race.'

Check out some pictures of our morning below.

3D snowflakes with winter-themed Haiku tags!

You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch!

How many items would you receive if you were gifted the 12 days of Christmas? Based on the provided, how much would it cost? (Also, what would you do with all those birds? So.Many.Birds.)

Here we are in Math 12-days-of-Christmas action!

Snow!

Oh snow!

Happy Thursday, friends of learning!

Today, in celebration of the winter solstice, our morning learning theme was snow!

We watched two snow-themed videos, read a snow poem, wrote a winter-themed Haiku and started creating 3D snowflakes!

Check out some of our creations! Amazing!

Stay tuned for more amazing snowflake creations coming tomorrow!

P.S. Today was "Anything but a backpack day!" Check out today's school accessories! So fun!

Grinch!

Hello! Happy Wednesday!

Today in Math we drew a mystery holiday-inspired 'friend' - the Grinch!

We brushed up on our coordinate knowledge to sketch out his grinchy grin and santa hat!

(Stay tuned for more Grinch photos coming tomorrow!)

We had fun singing along to holiday songs too. Who knew Wham! was still so popular?!

PEDMAS puzzles and Sports Haiku!

Hello! Happy Friday!

Today in Math we worked in teams of 2 to solve a PEDMAS puzzle.

Please ask me about my team's strategy: how did we approach putting the pieces together?

In Français, after our daily routines of "Spot the difference", reading and mini grammar lesson, we began exploring the world of Haiku and wrote a quick sports-themed Haiku with our table groups. For a first go, we had some very descriptive poems! Bravo!

We will continue on our Haiku journey next week with a special crafty surprise! Stay tuned!

Have a great weekend!

Is cereal a soup?

Hello! Happy Thursday!

Today in Français we kicked off our short debate unit with the question, Is cereal a soup?

Surprisingly, the whole class, with the exception of one student who was "50/50", had the same opinion that cereal is NOT a soup. What do you think? Is cereal a soup? Why or why not?

Stay tuned for more silly debates coming soon!

La priorité des opérations

Put your thinking caps on and solve these expressions:

1.   2 + 5 x 3
2.   10 - 3 x 3
3.   3 x 8 - 7 x 2
4.   9 + 9 ➗ 3

Did you get the following answers?

1. 17   2. 1   3. 10   4. 12

These same questions sure had us thinking, too!

To help us all arrive at the same answer, we've added a new skill to our Math arsenal:
"la priorité des opérations" (aka PEDMAS)!

The acronym PEDMAS helps us remember the order of operations
when we are evaluating a Math expression or equation.

We will continue practicing how to solve a variety of equations this week. Please ask me about 'la priorité des opérations'! What do I already understand? What questions do I still have?
