Hello! Happy Friday!
Today in Math we finished up our names à la Math!
We represented each letter of our names in a 100-square box and then calculated the fraction, decimal number and percent of the amount of squares coloured.
Math + Art = Fun! :)

Hello! Happy Monday!
Today in Math we were busy with so many things!
- We explored a new (for some of us) classroom starter routine, "Splats!", that gave us an introduction to improper and mixed number fractions.
- We worked through another decimal-multiplication question using paper versions of the base-ten blocks (and Mme challenged many of us to work in reverse and divide our answer once we found it)!
- We worked with our table groups to match up pictures, fractions, decimal numbers and percents.
- We finished with a short independent work block, completing different fraction-decimal-percent questions.
Coming up in Math this week:
- More decimal multiplication questions, with an introduction to using pictures and then symbols (algorithm) and mental math strategies.
- a division facts check-in (see Thursday's post for some online game options!)
- a fun Name activity, that connects our names with Math!
Stay tuned for all the updates!
Let's have a great week!

Hello! Happy Thursday!
Mrs. Jones was back with us this morning as we continued to explore the multiplication of decimal numbers. Now that we are confident with how to represent multiplication using base ten blocks, we will move on to showing our thinking with pictures and then with symbols (numbers).
Our progress with multiplication means that division is right around the corner. Although multiplication and division are besties, we often find division facts trickier than multiplication, which means that extra practice with division might be in order.
Please check in with me: how am I feeling about my division facts? 100% confident, so-so, or not so great? If the answer is anything less than 100%, some extra practice at home would be beneficial. The three links below offer a wide selection of online games that allow for division fact practice. Traditional flash cards are also a good tool. (If looking to purchase, I recommend the triangle-shaped ones that allow for both multiplication and division practice - a two-for-one special!)

Today in Français we finished watching the hockey movie, "Les Pee Wee."
Tomorrow in Français we will have the chance to share our favourite character, describe our favourite scene and give our opinion on if we liked the movie overall. We will also reflect on two of the scenarios from the film: a tough choice made by one of the goalies and a 'motivational' speech given by the coach after the 2nd period of the final game. For each of the scenarios, we will put ourselves in the position of the character and explain whether or not we would have done the same thing.
These questions were explained today in class at the conclusion of the movie and students were asked to do some 'thinking homework' this evening so that they'll be ready to complete the questions in class tomorrow.
Please ask me about the film: Did I like it? Why or why not? What character did I like? What part did I like the most?

This morning in Math we welcomed Mrs. Jones, one of our school division's Numeracy coaches. Working in pairs, we explored how to represent decimal numbers using base-ten blocks.
The centaine, dizaine and unité blocks we are used to "transformed" into unité, dixième and centième blocks for this task.
We estimated that the answer would be between 12 and 15 because 4x3=12 and 5x3=15.
To find the actual answer, we started by building the number and then replicating the number into the required number of groups. From there, we looked at how many of each type of blocks we had and if any switches could be made. 10 centièmes (hundredths) = 1 dixième (tenth). 10 dixièmes (tenths) = 1 unité (one).
After completing all switches, we counted what we had. 4,78 x 3 = 14,32!
Please ask me about this morning's Math-tivity. What did I notice? How can we switch one set of blocks to represent another? What did I find challenging? Did I have an "A HA!" moment?
This week in Math we began a Math unit about percents, and started by watching the short video, "If the World Were a Village." We took the data shared in the film and represented it in different ways: tables, 100 blocks and circle graphs.
This activity served as an introduction to the fact that percents are ratios out of 100 and can be represented under many different forms.
Please ask me what information was most surprising and which one made me think the most. (Mme's biggest takeaway was that the world's resources are not equally divided and there are way too many people who go daily without having enough food to eat.)

Today in Français, we started watching the film, "Les Pee Wee." This will wrap up the hockey unit we've been working on for the past 2 months. After watching the movie in class, students will be asked to write about their favourite scene and to give their opinion about 2 or 3 scenarios that happened in the story.
A note: The movie is in French and is being shown with French subtitles. There are, however, a few English 'gros mots' (swear words) that are spoken (in context) throughout the film. We discussed this as a class before the beginning of the film so that students will not be caught off guard when it happens. The film was previously one of the films shown at Cinémental and has been approved for school viewing. It is rated PG (G in Quebec).

Hello! Happy April!
It was great to see a classroom of smiling faces this morning! I hope everyone had a restful week and is ready to jump in to Term 3!
This morning, we started with a "Trouve Quelqu'un Qui" activity to see what our classmates were up to over the break.
Then, in Math we worked together at the white boards to explore the following problem:
Please ask me about my group's party proposal. How much of each item did we choose to purchase? What was the total cost? Why did we feel this was the best solution?
